Remote tethered shoots are a way for photographers and models to produce high quality images together without being in the same physical location. I began offering remote shoots as a response to pandemic to those who were looking to get creative in quarantine. I really enjoyed connecting with photographers from all across the globe, and when the shutdown ended I realized this was something I wanted to continue to offer on a permanent basis!
First, my Sony A7Riii (with 24-70mm F2.8 G Master lens) is set up on a tripod, and is connected to my computer using a high-speed USB tethering cable.
I then launch my tethering software - I use Sony Imaging Edge Remote. This displays my camera’s live view, and allows all of the settings and the shutter to be controlled through my computer.
I then call the photographer on whatsapp, facebook messenger, or instagram. We conduct the audio portion of the session there so I can keep my phone nearby for ease of communication. After that, the photographer and I launch a Zoom meeting - this is where we conduct the video portion of the call. I share my screen with them, and give them remote control access to my laptop. This allows the photographer to control my mouse as if it is their own, so they can then adjust the camera settings and click the shutter! The camera position and focal length can also be adjusted manually by me according to the photographer’s direction, in order to bring their creative vision to life.
When the shoot is complete, all of the RAW files are uploaded to cloud storage and shared with the photographer as soon as possible. Usually this is within 12 hours, but it can be longer depending on the speed on my internet, the number of photos they took, whether they shot RAW or JPEG, and how many other remote shoots I have done that day.
Currently the majority of my remote shoots are done with natural light in locations that I rent specifically for this purpose. If you want to be notified when I have access to a new space, you can sign up for my newsletter at the bottom of this page.
If you want a visual representation of how the process works, check out the video I made at the beginning of the pandemic here.
My passion and interest is in creating artistic imagery, and I am available for shoots up to art nude. Please use my portfolio as a guide to my comfort levels. For a more in depth description of my boundaries, please click here.
I do not allow video recordings or screenshots to be taken during remote shoots.
My rate for remote shoots in my home is $150/h. I also occasionally rent premium locations, and in those cases I will adjust my rate to reflect that.
You can check out the list of premium locations I currently have available here.
For remote shoots taking place in my home:
I do not require a deposit and there is no cancellation fee (but please let me know as soon as possible if you can’t make it!). The full fee is due at the beginning of our shoot.
If I have reserved a location
A 50% non-refundable deposit must be paid at the time of booking to reserve space on my calendar, and the remainder is due at the beginning of our shoot. Due to the expense involved with renting a space and the limited time I have available in them, in these instances I will require 100% of the fee for cancellations within 48 hours.
